The Wedding Calendar Countdown To End All Wedding Calendar Countdowns
One Year Before Wedding
Talk to both sets of parents to discuss the wedding budget…beg for them to pay a significant amount, if not all.
Select your wedding date ( day on the calendar not an actual date to the wedding, that should be filled already) have a back up date in mind (once again not an actual date to the wedding)
Meet with the officiant who will perform the wedding ceremony…no joke here, sorry
Decide on music for the ceremony. This can be either a soloist, organist or any other musician. Ask if they can play a little Metallica.
Reserve your reception venue. Locate one near a hotel, you can thank me later.
Select your catering. This should include any and all forms of sushi.
Pick Your DJ and or band. They should be able to play The Weather Girls all time classic “It’s Raining Men”
Book Studio Cabral for your Photography and Video and pretty much anything else they offer. I cannot stress enough how important this one is for your wedding day.
Six Months To One Year Before The Wedding
Visit with the clergy to set the date and time of your ceremony…once again no joke here.
It’s a good time to review your budget with both sets of parents. Once again begging can help.
Great time for the Bride to select the wedding gown as well as your veil. Extra points if you can somehow incorporate any super hero.
Time to start your guest list and have both sets of parents start theirs. If your the first to get married good luck your parents will want to invite everyone they every met.
Groom needs to select his best man and ushers. May we suggest a draft much like the NHL, complete with announcer and TV show. Let them also know at this time although it is a summer wedding they cannot wear shorts, flip flops and a t-shirt.
Bride to choose her bridal party and discuss/order dresses for the wedding day. Reiterate how hot pink is such an awesome color and that it matches everything.
Register for gifts. Ask your local comic book shop what sort of options they have for weddings.
Start your honeymoon planning. Send away for brochures, visit a travel agent and do a bit of online research. Any European destination should do although Paris is great any time of year.
Four Months Before The Wedding
The Groom should choose his suits style…pants are optional.
At this time your guest list should be complete. If you have an ex boyfriend attending you should probably rethink that.
Order your invitations. If any Super Hero is pictured you win at the game of life.
Renew your passport. Don’t blame your better half if they go on the honeymoon alone and your sent home.
Meet with the musicians to select music. If Metallica is not an option AC/DC is a very good second choice.
Order your flowers…I got nothing, carry on. I was going to say something about chrysanthemum’s but not anymore.
Get your wedding bands so that forever more you can quote Homer Simpson. The true Simpson’s fans will know what I’m talking about.
Register for your premarital classes. Not kidding, these classes helped my wife and I so much.
Three Months Before The Wedding
Final, final, final guest list. Meet up with both set of parents and beg one last time for them to help out. This is a great time to mention how great a child you were. Unless if you weren’t a good child in which case no need to bring it up.
The Groom needs to finalize his attire as well for his groomsmen. Superhero T-shirts underneath for sure.
Book that European honeymoon. Make sure passports and or visas are in order. No one needs to be left behind.
Two Months Before The Wedding
GET YOUR WEDDING CAKE …red velvet works for everyone.
Set up hair and make up consultations. No need to mention this is for the Bride. Not that there would be anything wrong with that.
Your reception menu should be finalized. If your wedding is on a Tuesday you already made that decision. Taco Tuesday!
Mail out your invitations…Sorry. I can’t make it, I got a thing.
Arrange for your wedding day transportation. I feel that chariots should be an option, but who am I to make that call.
Bride’s gown fitting should be scheduled. Make appointments for the attendants to get fitted as well. Last chance to incorporate hot pink.
One Month Before The Wedding…Bride
Bride’s final dress fitting. Complete with fresh super hero logo ablaze on the back, tasteful of course.
Buy gifts for the groom and your bridesmaids. Studio Cabral gift certificates are available.
Schedule your rehearsal for the week or few days before the wedding day.
Start writing your thank you notes. Yes for the gifts which you may receive on your wedding day. Trust me, you need the head start. Your welcome by the way.
Arrange the accommodations for your out of town guests. If they are from the US make them stay in a hotel. Their dollar is better than ours.
Finalize your details with the venue, caterer, florist, musicians and Studio Cabral.
One Month Before The Wedding…Groom
YOU HAVE TWO JOBS DO NOT MESS THEM UP
Buy a gift for your bride and your attendants. Tickets to the Maple Leafs, Raptors and Blue Jays work. Get one for your photographer as well.
Confirm the details and reservations for the honeymoon in Paris.
Two Weeks Before The Wedding
Review all of the details for your transportation. Escape plan not included.
Continue writing your thank you notes. Yes continue, your gonna thank me later.
One Week Before The Wedding…Crunch Time
Check with all of your vendors in regards to final details. Make sure your times and locations are all the same. No joke here, this one is serious.
Pack for the honeymoon. Or just a toothbrush that depends on you guys.
Bride…time to pick up your wedding gown. I speak for everyone when I say you look great in it. Good choice by going with the Batman logo, it matches your eyes.
Groom…pick up your wedding attire. Don’t worry you can find a great video on YouTube on how to tie your bow tie.
Give your attendants their gifts and advise them on any special seating arrangements for the ceremony. In regards to the gifts (tickets to a major sports event in Toronto) the photographer gets the closest seat to the aisle.
The Big Day Has Arrived
Groom gets all the duties. Bride gets to be a princess for the day.
Go over any details and timing for the day with the best man. Someone else can help with that, you may not know it yet but this is the biggest day of your life. Unless the Maple Leafs win the cup within your lifetime at which point that becomes the biggest day of your life.
Make sure the best man has the wedding ring. This may very well be the most important point. Miss this and there will not be a wedding.
Arrive 20 to 30 minutes before the ceremony, not after. It’s cool if the bride is late but not the groom.
Make sure you thank everyone, including both sets of parents. If not for them this would not have happened.
PS…Remember to have fun.
