WEDDING ADVICE – The Suit

WEDDING ADVICE – The Suit

If I had one thing to change from my own wedding it was the suit. AND ONLY THE SUIT. Everything else was unbelievable. They day went great apart from the nerves and tears of joy. There was nothing that I can look back on as we watch the video and flip through our album with regret. Other than the one thing that I am wearing in 90% of the photos. I wore a Superman t-shirt underneath my suit and that was used the other 10% of the time.

My suit was a rental. It never fit right on me and I always wondered how many guys had worn this same suit and where and when and with who. I wish I had bought a custom suit. Something that for me perfect as well as looked cool. Cool for at least 10 years at which point my children could start making fun of it, as I did my fathers. For the record my parents were married in 1978 and everyone during that era had beige suits with brown lining. Complete with pirate style ruffled shirts and those 3 story high platforms.

My suit should have been a three piece masterpiece. Possibly grey although I’m not sold on that.. Add a nice top hat of some kind. Not to wear just to hold in my hand. Not sure about the tie, maybe bow tie maybe not. But the pocket square would be blue to match my socks and Superman t-shirt underneath. Cuff links would be vampire teeth. I may also have a smoking pipe in the hand that is not holding the top hat.

Now I understand that this all sounds crazy, but it’s my crazy. In the end I choose to settle for something that I did not want. I look back and that is the only thing I would change. I guess I should be happy about it but why not reach for perfection. My point is this. If you are getting married and are thinking of renting just take a step back and realize that this is your wedding day. You may want to be yourself and there is nothing wrong about that. As Sting says “just be yourself no matter what they say”
