In many ways your engagement photos are more important than your wedding photos. I said in many ways not in all the ways, because you can never recreate your actual wedding day. But there are a few reasons why your engagement session will be beneficial in achieving awesome images on your wedding day. How you ask? Well it’s simple. The following Top 5 reasons why you should get engagement photos will lead you down the path to great wedding day images. The kind that you will cherish and pass down to the next generations to share.
Number 5 – Test Out A Location
If you are getting married in the winter but would really love to get a different look? Maybe the summer or fall. You can have your engagement session at the same location as you will capture your wedding images. That way you can have a complete different look that only a different season can provide. But more importantly you can get a test drive of your first choice just in case it really is not your first choice after all. We have taken this approach with a few couples and it worked out well and helped them come to the location decision.
Number 4 – An Excuse To Dress UP
A few couples have used their engagement photo session as an excuse to dress up. A few have even gone as far as to have a concept where we can bring in props, sets and even costumes. We still are looking for that special couple to do that “Walking Dead” session, but that’s a story for another day. It can make for an exciting added layer to your wedding day images. If there is a theme for your wedding your engagement photos can be incorporated as well within it.
Number 3 – You Can Learn

It is within the engagement photo session you will learn that there is a process in achieving great images. The process is a fun experience and not one where we take one picture and call it a day.

Everyone is different in case you have never noticed. We all love, speak, feel, think and walk differently. You can teach your photographer how you to show your love for one another. Some people are shy and share their love more privately while others yell it from the rooftops. But each one can show it in their way. As a photographer sometimes we need to learn how is you choose to show it. That is the fun part of the job, finding where the love comes from and showcase it. You can be a teacher in that regard as we learn something new everyday.

We have all heard of the saying but how can it relate to your engagement photos? It is simple, and for us it is the most obvious reason, which is why it comes in at number one. You need an opportunity to see, feel, touch and taste the experience of having a professional photographer capture your images before your wedding. It is crucial for you to know what to expect on your wedding day. The only way to do so is to have a dress rehearsal without the dress of course. You have both had your picture taken by friends but those are snaps at a club or family gathering. Not an ideal situation to promote love.
