Is It Too Early To Book Your Engagement Session

Is It Too Early To Book Your Engagement Session

As I write this I look outside and can see people passing by our storefront in shorts. You can call it another day in Toronto if you choose to but the fact is it is warming up. We are not talking mid July but old man winter may be heading home soon. This is the perfect time to schedule your outdoor engagement session. If you are getting married this year you may be too late but if you still have a few months before your special day you better get us on the phone.

Time flies when you are having fun as we all know and there is no more fun than wedding planning. Although we can and have photographed outdoors in any and all weather conditions you may long for the sun to get out there and make awesome images with us. But if you are thinking of a May shoot you need to hurry as that’s in two months. You need to schedule a session, get to the mall for a new outfit, book your hairdresser and book the nail lady. That’s a lot in a short time frame. Then you need to think about the location if you have not already. Not to worry we have your location picked out and what is the best day and time to get there.

In conclusion it is never too early to book your engagement session. You need that extra time for more important things like binge watching the Walking Dead. Before you know it crunch time comes and you need to do too many things and there are only 24 hours in a day, and you need to get your standard 8 hours of beauty rest. Which is the last thing you need to do after getting your nails done. See how busy it can get, I forgot about sleep.

The Dreaded Wedding Speech And How To Beat It

The Dreaded Wedding Speech And How To Beat It

Your palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy…Are you Eminem, not quite. You have just been asked to say a speech at a wedding. It does not matter who’s wedding this is. The fear comes from saying the speech itself in front of people. Any number of people can scare anyone. There are even those of you who would rather die than to actually stand in front of a crowd and say a few words. We have come up with a few tips that may help with a speech at a wedding or public speaking in general.

For starters you need to be prepared. If you think that JFK just winged that speech about what you can do for your country you are kidding yourself. Preparation is 80% of the battle. You need to be ready with ample time before hand to come out on top. Now to be fair you will have at the very least months to prepare for a wedding speech. If you are told that you will be speaking within minutes you can freak out, or just say no thanks. no preparation will lead to run on sentences and just general blah, blah, blah that no one will appreciate. Do not try to picture anyone naked as your grandmother may be in attendance and you will save yourself hours of therapy. Trust me on this one.

Try to be funny but not SNL funny, they are on at 11:30 pm for a reason. You need to know that there may be a four year old sitting in that room that does not need to learn right then and there her first special four letter word. If you are the best man remember that not everyone need to know about that trip to Las Vegas. Their slogan is popular for a reason. It is ok to be emotional during your speech. There is a good reason you were asked to speak and it is most likely that out of all the people in the world you may be their best friend. You have known this person forever and it is ok to shed a tear. Tears are antifreeze for your soul and you need to let them out once and awhile. Just not during the Walking Dead, that’s the only time it is not cool.

Fall Outdoor Ceremony and Reception Alyssa & Ryan

Fall Outdoor Ceremony and Reception Alyssa & Ryan

You read that correctly Alyssa and Ryan had their wedding completely outdoors in the fall. Yes this includes both the ceremony and reception which we held in either one of their parents back yards. Talk about a little bit of pressure for the family, but they all pulled through and had an awesome wedding day. This while we enjoyed showers here and there through out the day and one storm during the wedding reception, a high Five goes out to the person who invented tents, that was what saved us at night.

This October wedding day was very mild for the fall and we took advantage of it. With every location outdoors I do not know how we would’ve made it to the end if it were cold. Our day started off in Riverwood conservancy in Mississauga for the bride and groom’s first look. After a few moments of figuring where we would all be standing, all the while Ryan was blindfolded we were ready to get the first look captured. Sure must of looked like fun for the strangers passing through, I’m sure there would be a fun Benny Hill themed video online if someone were filming. It turned out to be the most genuine first look we have photographed and you can see why below. Despite a few rain drops here and there we managed to capture awesome images before we needed to be present at the wedding ceremony located in Ryan’s parents backyard.

We were really impressed with how the ceremony location looked and felt. It was very intimate and inviting the top two things needed for a wedding ceremony. The ceremony was conducted by the same minister who married Ryan’s parents, how cool is that. After the beautiful outdoor ceremony we all jumped into our vehicles and made the short drive to the wedding reception located in Alyssa’s parents backyard. We were thankful for the tent as the rain come at the start of dinner but the Food Dudes gave us all a wonderful meal that helped take our minds of the drops. We left at around 11pm but we found out later that the party didn’t really end until the early morning.

How To Select Your Photo Session Images

How To Select Your Photo Session Images

One of the most likely things our clients say after any photography session is that they are having a difficult time making a selection(s). After a few images taken to be honest we have a difficult time selecting an image or two for samples or images for the web. This could be for family portraits, business portraits or even weddings. We feel your pain, it could be difficult to select one image over another especially when you love them all. But we have our secrets and today we are here to share them with you.

It can be a daunting task to cut down on a few hundred and sometimes a few thousand images. But the key is to put them into smaller groups so that the task is not as difficult. When you are ready to select images from your wedding for your album you can break them into 3 separate groups. These groups can help you tell the story of your wedding day through images and these will be shared forever within your family.

First group are the most haves these can be the images that are your absolute favorites. These will make up the larger images within your albums and in may cases will be all the images in your album. This depends of course on how many are in the must have group and how many are in the second group. The second group are the scene setters that help tell the story of your wedding day. This can be the decor, props and or any other objects that help tell the story. This group could also be candid moments the show family and friends interacting at your wedding. The final group are the ones you like but do not love. These are good to keep for yourselves but to add them to your album will be a little too many images.

For all of the other sessions that we photograph the selecting can be a little less involved but the process is the same. You need to group the images you love and the images you like but not love from one another. This makes everything a whole lot easier for you in selecting the best images from your family portrait session or your business portrait session. Now if you are sitting there with 15 favorites and really only need one large portrait of your family on your wall you could do one of two things. Make a large wall collage of all of your favorite images and showcase it on one large wall in your home. Or and this is our favorite, take those 15 favorite images and put a large wall portrait on each and every wall in your home.
