First Communion Photography Sessions

First Communion Photography Sessions

With the passing of Easter on our calendars the studio focus turns to First Communion sessions. Every year since day one back in 1987 this has been a busy time for us here and we look forward to each and ever session. Many of the children that we have photographed have turn into brides and grooms over the years as we have been privileged to photograph their wedding’s as well. It is also a blessing to find that on their wedding day we notice the images taken years before on the wall and shown proudly in their parents homes.

The next few months before summer holidays is the most active time here at the studio for First Communion photography session. It goes without saying to book your spot you need to act early and avoid disappointment. You can only hope to get that suit and our dress on your child one more time. Most of our weekend dates book soon after Easter as everyone’s mind shifts from holiday mode to what’s next. Although a few spots have already been booked since January we do have a few remaining.

If you would like information on pricing, date availability and or any other questions you can call or email and we can help you. For those of you who need prints done prior to a party we ask that you have your session booked at the very least two week’s before. It will allow us more time to prepare your order and have it ready for your special event. Also keep in mind that we can accommodate any image concept you have in mind. This includes both digital imaging and framing.

The Real Skills You Should Look For In A Wedding DJ

The Real Skills You Should Look For In A Wedding DJ

We have been in the room for many wedding receptions. In reality too many to count and if you ask us what is the number factor that makes a wedding great it is the person in charge of the music. The DJ holds the keys to the car and that car can either be headed to an unforgettable evening or it can be headed for car problems. That is a job no one should envy. That job can be judged simply from the number of humans on the dance floor. You know what it means if that dance floor is empty.

So what skills does a DJ need to combat the empty dance floor issue that may arise. Experience is the key factor for us when it comes to any job. You need to know how to deal with the situation and who better than someone who has been there before done that and came home with the t-shirt. I have seen many times an empty dance floor and the person with their hands on the wheel not know what to do because they have not been there. It is a crawl under a rock type of moment. But with experience you know how to deal with it. It could be as simple as knowing the crowd or knowing what gets people back on that dance floor.

The funny thing about experience is you can’t see it on someone. You need to be present to witness it as it happens and it comes when you least expect it. I would try to see a DJ at work if you could maybe right at the beginning of the night when the open bar has not been as frequently visited. You can tell early as most of the good wedding DJ’s have already worked the room and has taken notes on age demographic and anything else that helps them decipher music taste. However the line between a full and empty dance floor is very thin. It can happen so fast that you don’t know what happened. But if we know one thing that can help it even better than an experienced DJ.That one thing is the people throwing the party being on that dance floor.

Winter Wedding At Fantasy Farm Charlene & Noah

Winter Wedding At Fantasy Farm Charlene & Noah

Winter weddings are supposed to be cold, especially here in the great city of Toronto. But Charlene and Noah were lucky on their wedding day this past January. It was plus 8 degrees Celsius on that awesome day, no joke. When we met the few times prior to their wedding day we had all hoped for just a bit of snow but not too much. We wanted a few outdoor shots and really only needed a light dusting of snow. Just a 4 cm snowfall the night before would be the best thing for us we thought. Fast forward to the wedding day and we received a gift from Mother Nature. An invite to photograph outdoors all afternoon and we gladly accepted.

Our day started right in the bridal suite at Fantasy Farm with all of the ladies working on their makeup. But Charlene was ready to go as soon as we were and we headed outdoors for Noah’s first look. After the bride and groom shared a moment alone we continued to stay outdoors in our winter tropical climate to capture the awesome images you see below. The only hurdle we faced was the sun going down but we used that to our advantage and captured one of our favorite silhouettes. With the last rays of sunshine going away we headed indoors for the ceremony.

The intimate ceremony was short and sweet just the way everyone likes them. It left plenty of time for the cocktail hour right before the reception. The party was just as awesome as all of the DIY decor through out the day. Handmade bouquets and center pieces add a heartfelt touch to any event. But the cupcakes took the cake for us. They were made by Noah’s aunt whom did not pass along the recipe no matter how much arm twisting we did.

Is Wedding Photography Important?

Is Wedding Photography Important?

Recently we were in the middle of a discussion with a client and they asked us if we felt that wedding photography was important. In today’s ever changing world that we are just living through each selfie it looks as though wedding photography may not be that important. If you were to ask people aged 15-25 they may laugh at you if they actually look up form their smart phone. But it is a question that many of you may have and we have a very simple answer, yes it is. In many ways wedding photography is more important now then ever before.

Think for a moment to your grandparents and all of the photo albums they have or had. Some of you are now coming into possession of these photo albums, or as we like to call them family history. Images taken years and generations ago are now your family history. They are the only way in which you receive answers to the question of where did I come from. If you are like me you can visit people in multiple homes and not see on single image on the wall. It’s like we are all renting a hotel room and plan on leaving soon. So soon that we cannot put our family history on our own walls, let alone a book to pass along. Wedding Photography is important as is all types of photography, as long as it can be seen. Not just on our phones or online but within or hands or on our walls, proudly.

You cannot put a price on history, especially if it is your own. Images can tell the story when the voices are no longer there to tell them. It sounds simple and is fairly straight forward but many of use will lose our history at any time, if we decide to never get our images off our devices and make prints. Your family history starts on your wedding day if you believe it or not. Think about 3-4 generations from now, when they start the family tree it’s the spouses that appear on each branch. Almost as though everything before that day didn’t count.

The importance of wedding photography is within you and we all look at it differently. Wedding photography is important to you if you choose it to be. If you feel as though the beginning of your family history is important then you have answered your own question. If not there will be a silhouette where your smiling face should be on a family tree in the year 2525. Hope that helps you make the decision as to if wedding photography is important or not.
