Chris’s 365 Photography Project for 2017

365 photography project

In 2017 I will try my very best to photograph one image a day, every single day for the whole year. For a few years now I have attempted to pull off the 365 project but to be honest, I never put my heart into it. I also have never really felt accountable to get it done because I didn’t put it on paper and or announce it online. So here it is the accountability that was missing, and now I have to get this done. I am not doing this for anything other than my own desire to accomplish it.

I will be posting daily on my own personal Instagram page. You are all invited to follow me, as you have always been. I feel like I would also like to post the months best images. This would be a great way to see if I may be following a certain style, idea or concept. Or it can also be a barometer for how I know it will be, a freestyle approach. I never go out and say I have to get this shot and I feel a freestyle approach may suit me. It could also be because I am a Gemini and consistently change my mind.

Before anyone mentions it, I will not be posting any wedding images as part of the 365 project. It would be too easy to fill in 300 days with wedding images. Although I will be posting wedding images as well as regular work on Instagram. I honestly am pretty excited about this and I am looking forward to any feedback from anyone and everyone. All of these “special” images will include the hashtag #365project so that we all can keep score. To the person out there who is going to email me at midnight on a random weekday saying I missed a day. Don’t worry you don’t need to watch I will pull this off

Holiday Party Events Studio Cabral Style

Holiday Party Events Studio Cabral Style

The office holiday party…it happens every year. Sometimes you need an extra day or so to recuperate. Sometimes you may need to find a new job afterwards. What ever the case we can be there to cover your event. Our favorite option is to photograph everyone as they arrive to the party right before dinner and dancing start.

We have the very fun photo booth style with props as well as classic studio style posing. It is a great balance that covers every age group. It’s like a mullet. Business up front and party in the back. The younger crowd loves to let loose and throw a few props on and go crazy. But the more “experienced” crowd wants a nice photo with their spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend. In some cases all three. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Whichever way you choose to be photographed we can be there for both fun and classic. We love the chance to do both and to see the groups become more and more relaxed. That may be us but more likely it may be the open bar. Either way we can take the photo booth idea and bring it to the next level with a more interactive approach. If you need to book a few hours of fun for your holiday party give us a call. We can be there for as little as 2 hours and photograph everyone who attends.

Sally & Ozal – Mississauga Convention Centre Wedding

Sally & Ozal – Mississauga Convention Centre Wedding

This year has been full of awesome events. Although they are all special to us, two weddings stood out for obvious reasons. One was my sister’s wedding that we photographed in August and this one. I have known Sally since she was 8 years old…That’s right 8… That’s when I started dating her super awesome sister, who is now my super awesome wife. To say I have known Sally all of her life is a stretch, but it is pretty close. Also for both or our sakes we will feel old to actually mention that it has been almost 19 years.

I met Ozal on October 9, 2010. I know what your thinking, WOW!! he must have made a real impression for you to remember the date. Not Really. That was another sister in laws wedding. But I knew he was nervous so I was extra hard on him because it’s only fair. But in all fairness he is a very cool guy and awesome person. Now to the wedding day…I’m tearing up over here.

There was a 5am wake up call for all of us. Although from what I hear most people did not sleep the night before because of all the excitement. We started with Ozal at 7am and he was wide awake. A high five goes to coffee for being the wake up call we needed. I kid you not that Tim’s 10 to go was with us all day and for some reason always full. Then we headed to my father in laws house for the bride’s shoot and it was surreal. I mean we go there all the time for regular things but this may be a little different. Not for him though, I was photographer and valet for the day…Don’t ask.

An 11am ceremony is a great way for you to have multiple hours for image making afterwards. But an early ceremony does not mean the nerves are less in any way. We managed to get all the of the bridal party there on time, including 2 ring boys and 3 flower girls. After the ceremony we all jumped into to the party bus and headed to PAMA for what turned into an afternoon of awesome image making for Sally and Ozal. We even managed to get in a nap or four in between the shoot and coffee run. After our nap we partied well into the night at MCC. At final count I was up for a grand total of 20 hours, minus a nap.

Top 5 Photography Books For Gift Giving

Top 5 Photography Books Books for Gift Giving

Some people find it hard to believe, but I love to read. Books are my favorite way to read them. You can keep your iPad’s and kindles. I just love the feel of holding a book in your hand. I do have a specific genre or two that I tend to gravitate towards and maybe one day we can get into that. But since my passion and life revolve around photography I thought I would put a list together of my favorite photography books.

With the holiday season fast approaching some of you may find this list helpful. I am very sure that some of you know of a budding photographer or 6. Or maybe you are the one who will covet any of these titles, or all. If I were you I would share this post on social media and voila problem solved. On Christmas morning these 5 gems will be under your tree. Your welcome!

In all seriousness any one of these titles can help guide even the greenest shooter. I myself take number one with me everywhere, yes even the bathroom. It has helped me grow and helped make me see things differently. Number two is a great coffee table book that anyone can have on display. Number 4 and 5 are for a bit of an advanced photographer I feel but maybe that’s just me. Finally number 3 is for a person who loves outdoors and isn’t shy. If you have ever had to ask a complete stranger if you could take the picture you would understand. Enjoy the list and I hope it helps you with your gift shopping.

Marlene & Fred – SJUCC wedding

Marlene & Fred – SJUCC wedding

Marlene and Fred had what you would call a good old fashioned Ukrainian Portuguese wedding. And we had front row seats for this awesome event. Now if you are asking yourself what is a good old fashioned Ukrainian Portuguese wedding, don’t worry. We just thought that would sound cool. In actuality we have absolutely no idea. But we are going to roll with it. All you have to know is the day was great and as always we had too much fun.

We set foot in 3 different cities on this great day. From Toronto to Brampton and then finally Oakville. All 3 gave us multiple opportunities for wonderful images for this super cool couple. For starters we loved Marlene’s wedding gown. It had so many different levels of awesome that we are still finding out new details as we look through their images. Her shoes had a fairly large heal. To compete with Fred’s height. To Marlene’s credit she never complained that her feet hurt. I am still in owe of that. Then again I still have no idea how ant woman can walk in heals at all.

Our favorite part of the day was our little lakeshore walk in Oakville. It was a last minute idea to fit it in and we are so happy that we did. If we didn’t we wouldn’t get the Miami Vice type boat in the background. That probably is one of the best timed images we have ever captured. On a side note we could not leave the waterfront without getting in a silhouette image. Any one of our wedding’s are not complete without a silhouette and a reflection image.

A quick shout out goes to Stephanie (Marlene’s sister) and Bruno. We photographed their wedding 8 years ago and who are now my personal Walking Dead text buddies. We are all big fans and we discuss each episode live on Sunday nights and quite frankly through out the week.

A very special thank you goes to the staff at St. Joseph’s Banquet and Conference Centre for their great help and hospitality.
