Le Treport Wedding Reception and Ceremony

Le Treport Wedding Reception and Ceremony

A few weeks have passed now since we had the pleasure of photographing Samantha and Ahijah’s wedding but the day is still vivid in our minds. We had an awesome time with this awesome people on that special day. Upon our first meeting with this couple we all knew that we were on the same page. Have fun and capture awesome images were what we all wanted to achieve and we did that and then some.

First off was the first look at Adamson Estates in Mississauga. After we picked a spot and went over the game plan our couple knocked it out of the park with the first look at one another. It was an emotional ride especially since we are so close to the action. A first look can be trendy to some but we feel it is the perfect ice breaker for the day, most of the nerves are let out there. After a walk through the park (both figuratively and literally) we headed to Le Treport for the ceremony.

After the first look took care of the jitters we had an intimate ceremony that ran well without a hitch. A quick little cocktail hour we had to step our game up because we were promised a party. To say they delivered was an understatement, if you have been to a Jamaican wedding you know what we mean. While the party was in full swing we thought it was a good idea to place the photo booth right on the dance floor and we were right. It turned into an action photo booth with a few dance poses that we cannot show you here.

5 things every bride should know before her wedding day

5 things every bride should know before her wedding day

1 – Your hair

Do not get me wrong I love hair stylists they are awesome people. But they should really pay attention to which side of the bride’s face their hair falls down. Countless times we are ready for the vows and everything is perfect then BAM…the right side of the bride’s face is covered entirely in hair. It’s a little thing but as a photographer it is a huge deal. We really really really want to see both the bride and grooms faces. It is kind of important. On that first consultation with your hair stylists let them in on this “secret” your photographer will thank you with multiple high fives.

2 – Your the star of the show

Some people have an issue being the star of the show, I am not one of these people. But there are those who are shy and find it hard being in the forefront, particularly in large groups of people. This is a tough one. What ever issue you have in regards to being the star you need to take it one step at a time. Focus on your partner and they rest will take care of itself. I had a tough time on my wedding day and I like attention. I just focused on my wife and it worked for me.

3 – Get comfy shoes

If you select one option this should be the one. You do not “need” to listen to any other one of these options but you should listen to this one. GET COMFY SHOES. They could be Crocs, Jordans or an old brown shoe but they should be comfy. Yes there are certain moments during the day when your feet do show, at these moments you put on a fancy shoe for show. You will last longer on your feet if you are comfortable. And yes you will spend a large portion of the day on your feet.

4 – You only get one chance at this

Unless you plan on getting married more often this is your only chance to make it count. Enjoy yourself, smile and laugh. Go and talk to everyone you can, they are there for you after all. Dance as long as you can and to whatever the DJ is playing. Yes I did request “It’s Raining Men”, just dance to it. It’s a classic 80’s jam and everyone loves it. As well “Thriller” is a perfect option no matter what time of year your wedding takes place.

5 – Assemble an awesome team

The A-Team, X-Men, Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, your bridal party. This is a short list of an awesome team. Your bridal party will be there all day, every step of the way. Think about that when you assemble your team. Remember you need a fun one, a loud one, a quiet one, a rebel, and of course the fixer. The fixer is there just in case something happens, think Harvey Keitel in Pulp Fiction.

Brampton Millennium Gardens Wedding

Brampton Millennium Gardens Wedding

A little different wedding day we had in store for Margaret and Manuel, it was sunny with blue skies all day long. A stark contrast with all of the rain we have ran into this wedding season. Not that we are complaining or anything it’s just a nice change of pace not to worry so much about Mother Nature throwing a wrench into our plans. As the wedding day progressed the clear skies helped with our idea of having a few different outdoor locations to photograph this awesome couple.

This intimate wedding was held entirely in Brampton and started in the wonderful St Patrick on the Gore Road. The character was shown to us in this over 100 year old gem as we entered the front door. Seating was at a premium and the church filled quickly as 2 pm got close and the arrival of Margaret. Manuel was nice and early as were we as we always want to scope out the area and plan our shoot. We didn’t plan on shooting on the church grounds but after we found a few choice spots we quickly changed the game plan for after the ceremony.

The ceremony was great and after the bride and groom greeted all of their guests following their walk down the aisle we headed out back for our rogue first location. We had a few acres to work with on the church grounds and used every inch of them. Before we finished we had to capture a few images around an abandoned house right across the street from St. Patrick’s. You know that we can’t walked away from any abandoned structure.

After our location jumping in and around the great city of Brampton we headed to Millennium Gardens for the reception. The reception itself was filled with emotions, a few tears and plenty of laughter. We even threw in a silhouette in the bridal suite to complete the perfect wedding day. It was like Christmas morning, a few silhouettes, an abandoned house and perfect weather.

Thinking of hiring a friend to be your wedding photographer ? Think again

Thinking of hiring a friend to be your wedding photographer ? Think again

Your friend has just purchased the greatest camera since George Eastwood founded Kodak and this camera has all of the bells and whistles. It even came with an extra lens and the camera takes great photos. So this would be the perfect person to ask to photograph your wedding, and it would be cheaper. Here’s the first problem, cameras do not take great pictures the photographer does. The photographer is the one behind the camera making it do what he or she wants. Like a pen and paper, a pen does not write great poetry the writer does.

I am not trying to give new or amateur photographers a bad name, I am trying to prove a simple point. If you have a new camera and you have experience photographing weddings you are ready to take on the responsibility of capturing the most important event in two peoples lives. If you have a new awesome camera and no experience photographing weddings, do not except the task. It really is not about photographing in general it is about problem solving, being a people person and all of the situations that make a wedding day. The photographs themselves are the end point that many things lead to.

As a consumer I understand what saving a few dollars can do. But in this situation being cheap will end up costing you more money unless you get really lucky. It is a gamble to trust this job to a person who has not gained experience from past weddings. I have met too many people at other events complain about what could’ve been at their own weddings had they only not had a friend take a few “snaps”. It really happens too often, not to mention the random person that walks in to the studio asking if we can saves their wedding images. “I thought my friend had it covered, but they were overwhelmed” they say.

To insure you have a professional photographer ask to see a portfolio. Ask for referrals from people you trust. Look to people who have already gone through the planning process and see what they have to say. Do your research, after all you know what you like.

Ashley and Gitano Harding Waterfront Estate Wedding

Ashley and Gitano Harding Waterfront Estate Wedding

2017 will go down as the year with the most rainfall on Saturdays. You do not even need to check any photographer will tell you. As most weddings are held on Saturday you can see how this has become an issue. However if you are photo ninjas like us you know the tricks to avoid rain and or any other form of bad weather. Ashley and Gitano were to be married outdoors so as the day started and the clouds rolled in everyone around us got worried. But we knew how to handle it, after all it had become the new normal for this year.

We had an ideal set up to start the day. Bride on one side of the street getting her make up done in her new home while the groom was on the other side of the street at his parents getting ready. Parking was not an issue neither was driving because I live 5 minutes away, on foot. Gitano has a bit of a rifle collection and we could not pass up using them in a few shoots. After freaking out the neighbours with our antique weaponry we took the long 14 steps across the street to see how Ashley was doing with her make up. With only a few moments to capture images we packed up with the bridal party and headed to Harding Waterfront Estate and the rest of the wedding day.

Ashley made the great decision to get fully dressed before her ceremony on site, which gave us ample time to get the final touches taken care of prior to the “I DO’s”. The whole time our part time meteorologist was giving us live updates on the weather. For a few moments there it didn’t look good but as the year has gone we got lucky. The rain went on a much needed vacation for a few hours and let us take care of business. After the ceremony we took the couple for a walk alone to the lake. Navigating our way through wet and muddy grass all the while dodging those pesky geese.

After a series of capturing great images we passed a bit of the time to skip rocks before the reception began. The tent came in handy as the rain returned with a vengeance during dinner. But the night went on well inside our dry tent but we knew it better stop for our late night sparklers. To to form we had a 5 minute window where the rain stopped once again and allowed us some pyrotechnic fun. Not sure how comfortable some of us were there with an open bar and fire but there where no mishaps.
