How To Know If You Need A Second Photographer at Your Wedding
Should you have a second photographer at your wedding? That is the million dollar question we are asked on a daily basis. There are days that we are asked if three photographers are enough. To us the answer is hidden in a few different questions that only the couple getting married can answer. Since everyone is different we can find many different answers to this important question. Many think it is easy to say for sure you need 2,3 or even 4 photographers, but that is not always the case. I have said it before we want to be a ninja that works away in and around the wedding but are rarely seen, only when they need to be seen.
We will be the first to tell you that our job is to document the event and capture everything. That is only achieved by knowing what is about to happen at all times. This is only possible when all vendors are working together and the wedding timeline is shared with all. I for one will answer that you truly only need one photographer but that may just be me. When I am at an event I act as if I am the only one there and should capture everything and usually I do. However you cannot be at two places at once. But on many occasions I have found that once you have a game plan and know the layout of where the event is it can seem like you are at two places at once. Like a ninja.
However, if your wedding is more on the traditional side and many different customs are taking place at the same time, then 2 photographers are a great idea. Many cultures have separate customs taking place within different rooms at the same time. This is an obvious yes to get a second photographer. That may be too much for even the most experienced ninja to handle. There is also a need to capture both candid images with the traditional. This as well could be a great opportunity to add a second photographer. Sometimes two minds are better than one, but those minds need to be on the same page.
You may be a person who loves photography and feel that the more images the better. In which case good for you, you get a high five. You can get as many photographer to capture your event as your budget allows. For those who are ok with a solo shooter remember it is not a bad thing to have one photographer at your wedding capturing all of your images. That photographer should be experienced and always have a timeline handy, or memorized. In conclusion if you have many things occurring in and around the same time in different locations a second photographer is a great idea. If you have a low key event with a more casual vibe, one photographer may work for you. In the end you may already know the answer.
