Do Family Photos Matter On A Wedding Day?
The short answer to this is YES. How you get there is completely up to you. It is your wedding after all. But with all of the “important” things on your wedding day this is the most important. You should find time to have it on your timeline and not just as a filler. It amazes me how many people tell me that we can just wing it on the wedding day when it comes to their family photos. That right there is a bad way to look at some of the most important people in your life.
Let me put it into perspective for you from my own experience. At my own wedding day we had a list of family we wanted to have photos with. I made sure of it even when things were falling behind the schedule. Someone can be running late and you need to start the receiving line or any thing can set you behind. But the family photos DO matter, no matter if you have 30 seconds or 30 minutes. You don’t realize it yet but this is the last time all the people who attend your wedding will be at the same place at the same time. In a few cases it will be the last day that you will be able to spend with a few of your guests.
There is only one real rule that we try our very best to follow. We suggest to the bride and groom that when and if we have a scheduled time for family photos, they should let only those family members they would like photos with. Or you could run into an issue with time if everyone their would like a photo. Unless a couple would like a photo with everyone. In which case we set a aside a time slot that can accommodate it. Family photos on a wedding day are important and should be held in high regard. Without some of those family members there wouldn’t be a wedding day to celebrate.
